We started by building our own product. Now we work inside your business.
Portabill is headquartered in Kochi, India. Our engineers work inside our clients' businesses, taking out the manual work with AI and software — and treating every system as if it were our own.
Why we work forward deployed.
Portabill began as a product company. We designed, built and launched our own subscription software — a property management platform for PG accommodations, hostels, co-living spaces and apartments — handling tenants, rooms, rent collection, invoicing, agreements and reporting.
Running our own product taught us what agencies often miss: launch is the beginning, not the end. Real customers find edge cases. Billing has to be right every time. Infrastructure has to stay up at 3 a.m. And the code you write in month one has to survive year three.
It also taught us where good software really comes from: engineers sitting close to the people who use it. Our best product decisions never came from a specification — they came from the property owners and managers using the platform every day.
That's why our engineers work inside our clients' businesses — an approach called forward deployed engineering. Instead of waiting for a brief, they spend time with your team, find the problems worth solving, have improvements working within weeks and stay accountable for the result.
Three principles behind every project.
Ownership
We don't just hand over code. We take ownership of the outcome — and if the system fails, we consider it our failure.
Reliability
We prioritise stability over the newest hype. We use battle-tested technology that we know will last, and we test it properly.
Long-term thinking
Every line of code is written knowing your business will look different 24 months from now — so it has to be easy to change.
